Create a wider connection between your kitchen and outdoor living area with a custom OpenUp® pass-through window.
All-inclusive price or custom quote in one hours.
A wall between your kitchen and patio can make serving and entertaining less convenient. An OpenUp® pass-through window creates a clear opening between the two spaces, making it easier to serve food and drinks while staying connected with guests.
The top-hinged window opens outward and upward to 90 degrees. This leaves the area below open for conversation, serving, and everyday use.
OpenUp® pass-through windows can connect kitchens, patios, bars, pool houses, and other indoor and outdoor entertaining spaces. They are available for homes and businesses.
The standard OpenUp® option uses 1-inch insulated glass made with two 3/16-inch tempered glass panes separated by a black spacer.
This creates a 5/8-inch air pocket between the glass layers, providing twice the insulation of a single pane. Argon gas can replace the air between the panes to add more insulating value.
Available customized glass options include Low-E coatings, argon gas fills, laminated glass, and double- or triple-silver soft coatings. OpenUp® recommends triple-silver coatings for sunny climates for maximum solar protection and efficiency.
OpenUp® offers custom pass-through windows for different opening sizes.
Measurements should be taken from both the interior and exterior. Differences between the indoor floor, countertop, and outdoor patio should be checked before the order is placed.
For gas-strut or motorized windows, the Customer Service page provides specific rough-opening allowances for the sides and the area above the countertop.
OpenUp Windows combines a wide pass-through opening with durable materials, custom sizing, and several operating options.
OpenUp® uses narrow sightlines and minimalist framing to provide 33% more view when the window is closed.
The larger visible glass area also allows more natural light into the room and maintains a clear visual connection between the indoor and outdoor spaces.
OpenUp® combines the exterior aluminum structure with Accoya® wood on the inside.
Accoya® is PEFC and FSC certified and described as 100% non-toxic. It has been tested for dimensional stability, durability, and paint retention. The wood grows in responsibly managed forests and can replace scarce tropical hardwoods, treated woods, and other less sustainable materials.
The outside of the OpenUp® frame uses structural extruded aluminum rather than a thin aluminum layer wrapped around a wood window.
In a comparison with an aluminum-clad wood window, OpenUp® found its aluminum material more than 30 times stronger in horizontal wind-load resistance. The strength of the aluminum also supports narrow frame profiles and larger window sizes.
OpenUp® precision-engineers each pass-through window by computer, and a dedicated team member builds the unit.
The company manufactures its own windows and brings more than four decades of experience in window design, manufacturing, and installation.
A fixed insect screen would block a pass-through opening. OpenUp® offers a retractable Pleated Screen that can remain out of the way until insect protection is needed.
The screen can be lowered while the window is open and moved when the full serving opening is required.
When ordered with the window, the screen comes factory-mounted before shipping. The frame is available painted white or black.
If a completed window does not fit because the submitted measurements were incorrect, OpenUp® will try to resell it at a discount.
The amount recovered from the sale will be credited toward the cost of a correctly sized replacement window.
OpenUp® windows normally ship within 4–6 weeks, regardless of size.
All windows are built, assembled, and shipped from the company’s manufacturing facility in Upstate New York, USA.
Windows are shipped by freight with tailgate delivery. People must be available at the job site to unload the window from the tailgate and move it to the required location
