A pass through window can create a direct connection between a kitchen and patio, bar, pool house, or other indoor and outdoor space. Whether you’re creating a serving area or simply want a wider connection between two spaces, OpenUp Windows combines custom sizing with a gas-strut awning-style design.
OpenUp builds every window to order rather than limiting projects to off-the-shelf sizes. Each one combines heavy-duty structural extruded aluminum, Accoya wood, insulated glass, and minimalist framing.
OpenUp specializes in gas-strut awning-style Pass Through Windows. The window opens upward to create a wide opening for serving, entertaining, conversation, natural light, and a wider view.
The windows open to 90 degrees, creating an active opening between indoor and outdoor spaces. OpenUp also offers a motorized option for homeowners who want push-button operation.
Standard sizes are available, and custom dimensions can be specified for projects that require a different opening. OpenUp also offers sill and no-sill configurations.
The standard glass package is 1-inch insulated glass: two pieces of 3/16-inch tempered glass with a black spacer between them, leaving a 5/8-inch air pocket.
Available glass options include:
For sunny climates and southern states, OpenUp recommends triple-silver soft coatings for additional solar protection and efficiency.
OpenUp Windows combines a wide pass-through opening with durable materials, custom sizing, and several operating options.
The aluminum extrusions and sightlines are built narrow on purpose, so less of the opening gets covered by the frame. OpenUp states that its original design provides 33% more view when the window is closed, while the larger glass area also allows more natural light into the space.
The aluminum forms part of the structural window system rather than simply serving as a thin exterior layer over another material. OpenUp combines the exterior aluminum structure with Accoya wood on the inside.
The interior frame is Accoya wood paired with structural extruded aluminum on the exterior. OpenUp states that Accoya is PEFC and FSC certified and has been tested for dimensional stability, durability, and paint retention.
The combination of extruded aluminum and Accoya wood gives OpenUp Windows a hybrid frame designed to combine structural strength, thermal insulation, durability, and the natural appearance of wood.
A regular fixed screen doesn’t work well with an active Pass Through Window opening. OpenUp instead offers an integrated retractable Pleated Screen designed to move out of the way when the opening is being used.
The Pleated Screen pulls down and stays in position until you move it, providing insect protection while keeping the pass through opening usable. The screen can be factory-mounted before shipping and is available with a white or black frame.
The Pleated Screen gives you insect protection without blocking the active opening. It pulls down when you want the screen in place and retracts when you want to use the full Pass Through Window opening.
Standard sizes are available for common project dimensions, while custom sizing allows OpenUp Windows to build a window for a specific opening. The company also offers custom configurations, features, and colors.
When planning a custom window, OpenUp recommends measuring both the interior and exterior sides of the opening. For gas-strut or motorized Pass Through Windows, its Customer Service guidance says to add ¼ inch to each side and ¼ inch from the countertop up when sizing the rough opening.
OpenUp also provides technical information covering sill options, detailed dimensions, and nailing-flange mounting.

He was very knowledgeable and answered all of our questions and we had alot. Our window was shipped to Florida in a crate that was very secure and came with step by step instructions on how to remove it. It was easy to install. This is a very well made product. Openup Windows definitely takes pride in there work and that is very hard to find these days. We are so happy we decided to purchase from this company. We purchased a 96 x 42 inch window with a 96 x 12 inch transom push out window for the bar in our new 3 season room. The window looks amazing and is the center piece of the room. I spoke with Adam several times during the process and he made me feel very comfortable with this purchase. Adam even drove to our home and helped with the installation.
