An OpenUp® pass through window creates a useful connection between indoor and outdoor spaces. It makes serving food and drinks easier while helping people inside stay connected with guests outside.
OpenUp® pass through windows can be used in homes and businesses, including kitchens, bars, and pool houses. Their minimalist framing provides 33% more view when closed and allows more natural light into the space.
A pass through window gives the counter between your kitchen and outdoor area a practical purpose.
When the window is open, you can pass meals and drinks directly through the opening. When it is closed, the minimalist frame and larger glass area maintain a clear view between the two spaces.
OpenUp® pass through windows can connect:
The standard OpenUp® glass option uses a 1-inch insulated glass unit.
It includes two pieces of 3/16-inch tempered glass separated by a black spacer. This creates a 5/8-inch air pocket between the panes, providing twice the insulation of a single pane.
Argon gas can replace the air between the panes to add more insulating value. Customized options also include Low-E coatings and laminated glass.
For sunny climates, OpenUp® recommends triple-silver soft coatings for maximum solar protection and efficiency.
OpenUp Windows combines a wide pass-through opening with durable materials, custom sizing, and several operating options.
OpenUp® pass through windows link indoor and outdoor areas, creating a practical opening for serving food and drinks, entertaining, and enjoying the view.
OpenUp® uses a hybrid frame with structural extruded aluminum on the outside and Accoya® wood on the inside. The aluminum is part of the window’s structure rather than a thin layer wrapped around a wood frame.
OpenUp® uses custom aluminum extrusions and narrow sightlines to provide 33% more view when the window is closed. The larger visible glass area also brings more natural light into the space.
Accoya® is PEFC and FSC certified and described as 100% non-toxic. It has been tested for dimensional stability, durability, and paint retention and comes from responsibly managed forests.
A fixed insect screen would block an active pass through opening. OpenUp® offers a retractable Pleated Screen that can stay out of the way until insect protection is needed.
Lower the screen when you want to keep flying insects outside. Move it out of the way when you need the full opening for passing food, drinks, or other items.
When ordered with the window, the Pleated Screen comes factory-mounted before shipping. The frame is available painted white or black.
OpenUp® offers several standard pass through window sizes through its online product collection. Windows can also be built for specific project dimensions.
Measure both the interior and exterior before ordering. OpenUp® recommends checking for differences between the indoor floor, countertop, and outdoor surface when determining the rough opening.
For gas-strut windows, add ¼ inch to each side and ¼ inch above the countertop when sizing the rough opening.
OpenUp® uses a hybrid framing system that combines structural extruded aluminum on the outside with Accoya® wood on the inside. Unlike aluminum-clad wood windows, the aluminum is part of the window structure rather than a thin protective layer wrapped around wood.
Each window is precision-engineered by computer and built by a dedicated OpenUp® team member. The company draws on more than four decades of experience in window design, manufacturing, and installation.
